The great thing about adoptions is that returning them rarely requires an explanation. If you decide you no longer want the dog you adopted, all you have to do is give the shelter a call and let them know. No questions will be asked by the facility, and the dog will be picked up and returned without delay.
They knew Stacy would tell them the truth about why Benji had been brought back to the shelter 11 times for various reasons. But they would soon see that they were unprepared to deal with reality… We need to know why Benjij was returned to the shelter 11 times. Is there anything that can be done to help this poor dog, and what exactly is wrong with it?
A dog that has been at a shelter for a while has had more time to get used to its new surroundings. Still, that’s not always a good sign. Due to the nature of shelters, each dog is often housed in its own cage, limiting the amount of socialization it can have with other canine residents.
Benji had been living in the shelter for animals for around fifteen months. Although he was hardly more than a puppy, he still looked very much like one, and everyone who came to the shetler to pick fell in love with him and wanted to take him home. The issue then becomes, why was poor Benji still here?
It’s true that some dogs perform better than others when it comes to finding new homes. The fact that Benji was still a young child and possessed a face that never failed to seem cute made him extremely lucky. Puppies are easier to convince people to adopt than other animals because, well, they’re puppies and they’re cute!
Benji actually did not spend as much of that year and a half in a shelter as one might assume. If he were available for adoption, it would take someone no more than two weeks to do so. But his adoptive family kept handing him back to his biological relatives.
